Hair removal entered the "laser age" when Softlight ® laser was the first FDA-cleared laser for hair removal which has the longest track record of safe use, worldwide. A patented topical carbon lotion is applied to the treatment area before the laser is scanned across it. The solution penetrates the hair follicles, and the black material in it preferentially absorbs the laser wavelength, which heats and destroys the follicles. Some redness may occur in the treated area, caused by heating the tissue that will subside after a couple of hours. Sunlight should be avoided around the treated area which may be sensitive.
Most clients may report a stinging in sensitive areas, such as the upper lip, but mostly a sensation of warmth.
